Can't Open xlsx pptx and docx files ?

What are .pptx .xlsx .docx files ? These are the files created by Office 2007, Up to office 2003 the it was .xls .ppt and .doc Most off them started working in Office 2007. If you create and just save a file from Office 2007, users with previous versions cant open this file.

In this case. When you save a file do “Save as” and select option “ **** 97-2003 Document” from the “file menu” Then the saved file will be compactable for the entire previous versions But what will you do when you get a file with these extensions? Don’t worry! Microsoft released a tool to named “Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack” Using this tool you can convert office 2007 files to the compactable file format for older versions

You can download it from here

Yeah, people: why use Word when it (a) costs more and (b) can't handle as many different formats?

docXConverter 2.0 (for mac or P.C. useres) is a program for opening and using files saved in the new Word 2007 default format, DOCX or in the new Excel 2007 default format, XLSX. docXConverter allows you to open docx or xlsx files with a program currently installed on your computer, even if none of your programs are capable of doing so on their own. For a docx file docXConverter converts the file to an RTF file, and then instructs one of the programs on your computer to open that file. For a xlsx file docXConverter converts the file to a CSV file, and then instructs one of the programs on your computer to open that file. docXConverter makes sure that the contents, the graphics and the layout of the original docx document are kept in utmost fidelity. Use docXConverter to open docx files in a word processor not compatible with Word 2007, to import docx files to a desktop publishing or graphic program or, if you are using an email program for example, use docXConverter to open docx files in text format. Use docXConverter to open xlsx files in a spreadsheet not compatible with Excel 2007, or to import xlsx files to a database program.

Unfortunately, even after installing the converter, Word 2003 may not convert a *.docx file. It will only throw you a "There was an error opening this file" message and close the dialog box. Microsoft has been aware of this for at least two months and continues to push the Word 2003 conversion pack as an answer, which it's not.

Confirmed docXConverter works. It converts those pesky .xlsx files into .csv. Yet another stupid arrogant move by Microsoft.

I installed filesconverter.exe from microsoft site but still can't open xlsx files although docx files are opening. I have office 2000 with SP3 on Vista. Any suggestions?

The text said "don't worry", well it should have said don't worry except if you're using ME, W98 or W95. The converters won't work on those operating systems.
